Bloomberg Mayors' Challenge Finalists Announced
Bloomberg Philanthropies has announced 20 cities as finalists of the Mayors’ Challenge, a competition that will award $9 million worth of grant money to cities generating the most innovative solutions to major urban challenges. Ideas submitted include a suburban transportation system that integrates public and private options; a “one bin for all” plan that aims to make recycling easier and capture 75 percent of a city’s waste stream; and a comprehensive local food system that addresses land, farming jobs, processing, transit, sale, and composting.
