Nashville Moving Forward with Greener Transportation Vision

The Nashville area Metropolitan Planning Organization has embarked on a new philosophy to put the region on a less-polluting and less-consumptive path, anchored by walkable neighborhoods, public transportation, and maximizing the efficiency of current roadways. The MPO’s 25-year Nashville region transportation plan adopts a “fix-it-first” approach that emphasizes maintenance and improvement of existing facilities. The plan also puts in place a scoring system with which to evaluate new transportation proposals. Evaluation criteria include system preservation, quality growth, multi-modal options, and health and environment.
