Portland Buildings Forego Dedicated Parking

A mixed-use project under construction in Northeast Portland will contain ground-floor retail and 47 apartment units, but no dedicated parking spaces for tenants. The project is one of almost a dozen projects proposed without parking in the Portland area. Portland city officials believe that apartment buildings constructed without parking will attract tenants who use alternate forms of transportation and do not own a car. Portland is reviewing its zoning to assess the acceptance by residents and nearby businesses of the “no dedicated parking” rule for new apartment buildings.
