Seattle's Car-Sharing Options Expand

A new car-sharing business, car2go, will join ZipCar as a car-sharing option in the city of Seattle. More than 300 new cars from car2go will be placed on Seattle streets by early 2013. “Car-share systems are a convenient, affordable option for people who want to reduce or eliminate the costs of car ownership,” says Seattle City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen. There are more than 20 car-sharing programs in North America, with 30 percent annual growth predicted through 2020. Car-sharing programs pay environmental dividends—studies have shown that each car-sharing vehicle replaces between nine and 13 cars on the road, cutting congestion and carbon emissions.
