Bike 'Green Lanes' on the Increase
The number of protected bike lanes in the U.S. doubled in 2012 and is on track to double again next year, according to Bikes Belong. These protected bike lines (called “green lanes” by Bikes Belong), have a physical separation, such as a curb, parked cars, or plastic posts, between moving cars and bikes. Over 100 protected green lanes existed across the U.S. at the end of 2012, with an additional 100 lanes projected to be added in 2013.
