Chicago Advances Bus Rapid Transit Options
Chicago transit leaders and urban planners have coalesced behind a bus transit design that would limit left turns and remove a traffic lane on each side of one of Chicago’s busy thoroughfares. The street connects both upscale and low-income neighborhoods to a cluster of hospitals at the city’s center. City officials think that the new bus plan would slow automobiles just slightly but speed up buses dramatically. The new bus service is expected to run up to 80 percent faster than today’s service.
