Secretary of Transportation Ray Lahood discussed smart growth priorities during a recent interview with Streetsblog.org. Lahood stressed that he and his staff “believe very strongly in alternative forms of transportation, promoting bike-share programs, promoting streetcars, promoting bus rapid transit, promoting light rail, promoting livable and sustainable communities, [and] promoting alternative transportation.” Secretary Lahood has announced that he is resigning from his position as head of DOT as soon as President Obama names his replacement.
