Shopping malls are undergoing a major transformation across the country. CBS News recently reported that while there are approximately 1500 enclosed malls in the U.S., only two new ones have been completed since 2009. Among existing enclosed malls, about 60 have been transformed by adding apartment complexes and replacing parking spaces with tree-lined, pedestrian-friendly boulevards. Another 120 existing malls plan to make similar changes.
