The City After Abandonment
This new book presents urban design schemes for cities that have suffered downturns in population, laying out strategies that differ from those in growing cities. Included in the book is a chapter that assesses formulas for addressing vacancy and abandoned urban lots in the sustainability plans of Cleveland, Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. The book suggests that well-designed sustainability plans would establish strong policy connections between new sustainable urban design strategies and the unique physical, social, environmental, and economic challenges that confront many distressed communities.
