Smart Growth Illustrated Web Site Uses Photos to Show Growth Solutions
''Smart growth can mean many things to many people,'' but a picture is worth a thousand words, says the Baton Rouge Advocate opinion page staff, complimenting the U.S. EPA for its Development, Community and Environment Division's new Smart Growth Illustrated web site, whose color photos of smart-growth solutions in 20 communities around the country show ''what words can have trouble getting across.''
Citing EPA's definition of smart growth as development that ''serves the economy, the community, and the environment,'' while focusing on questions of ''how and where'' it should be accommodated, the daily refers readers to the Smart Growth Illustrated online for the best examples of smart-growth principles at work. The examples include six from California, four from Maryland, three from Colorado, two from Florida, and one each from Georgia, Kentucky, Oregon, Texas and Washington.
''Homeowners often flip through magazines to brainstorm about home improvement possibilities,'' the daily observes. ''The Smart Growth Illustrated Web site can provide similar inspiration for those who want to dream of a better Baton Rouge. We encourage residents, developers, planners and political leaders to check it out.'' -- Advocate 8/4/2006
